Graduate Admissions

Fall 2014 Graduate Application Deadlines

Most programs are closed for fall 2014 application submittals.  The following programs will continue to accept applications:

  • Nursing (MS)
  • Recreation Administration (MA)

If you are interested in submitting a late application for a different degree objective, you must contact the Graduate Coordinator for authorization to apply late.  Credential applicants must contact the School of Education to seek authorization to submit a late application

 Graduate Admissions

To be admitted to graduate and postbaccalaureate study, a student must hold an acceptable baccalaureate degree from an institution accredited by a regional accrediting association or must have completed an equivalent acceptable to the Office of Graduate Studies at California State University, Chico.

Applicants who wish to pursue a master's degree must have an undergraduate grade point average of at least 2.75 in the last 60 semester units of course work attempted and at least 3.0 in the last 30 units attempted. Applicants for unclassified status, such as qualifying for a teaching credential, must have a minimum grade point average of 2.5 in their last 60 semester units of course work attempted.  Always refer to the University Catalog for specific requirements.

Application Filing Periods 

Applications for the fall semester may be submitted between October 1 and March 1 of the preceding year.  Applications for the spring semester may be submitted between August 1 and September 15 of the preceding year.  Please view our website or contact us for current information and exceptions.

Applying to Graduate Studies

Submit one official transcript from every college/university attended since high school (exceptions:  Chico State graduates).  Official transcripts must be received sealed in an original envelope from the issuing institution and be less than two years old.  All transcripts should be received by the application filing deadline.

Supplementary Application Material Submitted to Program/Department:

Review Program/Department admission requirements online at Programs and Coordinators – incomplete applications will be denied.

Submit letters of recommendation, writing analyses, statements of purpose, supplementary application material, MAT, etc. directly to the Program Department you are applying to.  Exceptions:  GMAT, TESOL & GRE should be submitted directly from the testing company to CSU Chico Testing Office.

Office of Graduate Studies – Admissions Appeal Procedure

Consideration for appeals is based on new and compelling information regarding your academic record.  Your appeal should include a statement indicating what special information should be taken under consideration, and may also include other relevant documentation.  You may only appeal once per semester.

The appeal must be submitted within 15 business days from the date that appears on your denial letter.  You may expect to hear the result of your appeal request within 45 business days from the receipt of the appeal.
