Local Founding Date: November 28, 1990
Motto: “Opening minds through culture, education, and unity”

Sigma Omega Phi manifested its roots on April 26, 1990. On this day, four exceptional women came together to create a sisterhood that bonds women of every race, class, and creed by opening minds through culture, education, and unity. We believe in the empowerment of women and equality for all women.

On November 28, 1990, Sigma Omega Phi was officially recognized on the CSU, Chico campus, Alpha Chapter. Since then, our organization has expanded to numerous campuses across Northern California.  Among those campuses are; Fresno State, Sacramento Sate, San Jose State, Stanislaus State, and National Hispanic University in San Jose.

Throughout our 20 years of existence, the ladies of Sigma Omega Phi have spent a great deal of time and energy raising money and spreading awareness for our philanthropy, Child Abuse and Neglect Awareness.  The organization recognizes the importance of contributing to the well-being and success of children, as they are our future.

In the years to come Sigma Omega Phi intends on spreading its sisterhood, values, and knowledge across the nation's educational system. We realize that "the journey of a thousand miles must begin by taking the first step".
