Greek Organization Requirements

Under the Greek Life Task Force Report, as adopted by the university president, University recognized fraternities and sororities must comply with the following requirements in addition to the Student Organization Policy:

Chapter Members

1. All members must be enrolled in at least 12 units at CSU, Chico.

2. Chapter members must sign an academic release form allowing the university to compile their academic record and submit it to the Greek Life Office.

Chapter Organization

1. All chapters must have a faculty or staff advisor, a chapter advisor, and an active alumni board.

2. All chapters must belong to recognized University Greek council and adhere to all of the governing council’s rules and regulations.

3. Chapter member rosters must be submitted to the Greek Life advisors no later than the Friday of the 14^th week in the semester.  After submitted, no changes can be made to the roster without the chapter advisor’s signature on the form and the consent of the Greek Life Office.

4. Chapter new member rosters must be submitted to the Greek Life advisors no later than the Friday of the 4^th week of the semester. After submitted, no changes can be made to the roster without the chapter advisor’s signature on the form and the consent of the Greek Life Office.

Chapter Events

1.      Organizations must complete a pre-event planning form (PDF) and submit it to the Greek Life Office five business days prior to any event that:

         (a) has more than 20 people attending;

         (b) alcohol will be served; and/or

         (c) is a formal, social, exchange, club events, or the like.

2.      All chapter houses and chapter events shall be alcohol and drug free; unless events are hosted at a third party vendor who is licensed by the state to serve alcohol.

Chapter Recruitment

1. All chapters must submit a recruitment week plan that reflects the national standard of values-based recruiting. The recruitment week plan must be submitted to the Greek Life Office at least two weeks before the start of each semester.

2. Chapters must have their new members attend the new member education workshops available throughout each semester.

3. Alcohol is not allowed before, during and after recruitment events.

4. University Recruitment Policy: In order to recruit, a chapter:

• Must be recognized by the University in order to partake in recruitment.
• Can only recruit new members who are full-time (at least 12 units) CSU, Chico students
• Can only recruit seniors, juniors, sophomores, and second-semester freshmen
• May begin recruitment on or after the 2^nd/3^rd week of classes; The Greek Life Office will determine when recruitment begins.
• Must complete its new member program within 8 weeks (vs. up to thirteen weeks in the past)
• Must initiate new members by the end of the 12th week of the semester. Extensions may be approved by the Director of Student Activities for extraordinary purposes (i.e. an emergency situation).
• Must require new members to complete an application including: Name, Student ID, Signature authorizing the University to release their academic standing, and GPA to the Greek chapter and Greek Life Office for scholarship evaluation purposes.

5. In order to recruit first-time first-semester freshmen, social Greek letter organizations must ALSO: Have a chapter GPA that is .20 above the all-university GPA for the previous semester (beginning Fall 2006) They can recruit only first-time, first-semester freshmen that have a high school GPA that is .20 higher than the average high school grades of the incoming freshmen class. One week prior to initiation, chapters must require first-time, first-semester freshmen who are new members to complete a progress report. This report must be signed by all the new members' professors and must indicate satisfactory progress in all classes in order for the new member to be initiated.
