Since GST takes only thirty-six students, isn't it very limiting
in the amount of social interaction it makes available to students?
GST actually seems to enhance social interaction among students.
Many entering freshmen incorrectly assume that will meet a lot people
in their classes and in their residence halls. Since most classes
are so large that there is limited interpersonal interaction, most
freshmen end up with one group of new friends -- the people they
live with. GST students, however, tend to end up with two groups
-- the people they live with and the people they share GST with.
The latter fact enhances GST students' classroom work since it provides
opportunities to study with others. We also require and encourage
students to engage in activities where they will meet students other
than their classmates.
