Holly Nevarez, Ph.D., is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Health and Community Services at California State University, Chico. Holly received her Bachelor’s of Science degree in Health and Community Services from Chico State. She then returned to her home-state of Illinois and earned her MPH from Benedictine University. Eventually she returned to the West Coast to earn her doctorate in Public Health from Oregon State University.
Dr. Nevarez’s research interests focus on exercise during pregnancy and breastfeeding. She has taken her research interests into the community by working with the Breastfeeding Support Center. Other community projects include the Harvest Food Drive for the Jesus Center and an Organ Donor Drive.
In addition to the community service, Holly’s previous work has helped her bring real life examples into her teaching. Before she became an instructor, Holly worked in both hospital and clinical settings for 12 years. She taught at both The Bryman School (Phoenix, AZ) and Oregon State University before coming to CSU, Chico.
In her personal life, Holly enjoys spending time with her 3 young children, her husband, and family. She also enjoys running. She has successfully completed 3 marathons and is looking forward to tackling others.
