Mary Portis has a Doctor of Public Health degree from Loma Linda University and has been teaching in the Health and Community Services Department since 1989. Her areas of expertise are school health, program planning, behavior change, and service learning. She is the Health Science Single Subject Credential Advisor. Dr. Portis incorporates service learning projects into all her courses. Several of these projects have become traditions for the department such as the Honey Run Run, bi-monthly blood drives, Health Academy, and Read Across America.
