MORE INFORMATION:

Tobin Roye to Perform Brazilian and Spanish Guitar Music During April 16 Concert

CSU, Chico’s Music Department will present guitarist and faculty member Tobin Roye in “Brazilian Daze, Spanish Knights” at 7:30 p.m. on April 16 in Rowland-Taylor Recital Hall.

This concert, a fundraiser for the Guitar St

udies Program, will explore sensual contemporary Brazilian waltzes and passionate Spanish classics by 19th and 20th century composers.

“’Brazilian Daze, Spanish Knights’ will feature the sensual sounds of Brazilian waltzes, highlighting some of the most important contemporary guitar composers of South America today,” Roye said.  “It will also feature the robust and impassioned nationalist music of Spain.”

Pieces will range in style from folkloric and imitative Brazilian composer Barrios to the blind Spanish composer Rodrigo who popularized classical guitar music. Songs written by Brazilians Bellinati and Pereira will contrast music by Spanish composers Tarrega and Turina.

Roye, a Northern California native who recently returned to CSU, Chico from San Francisco, will perform these songs.  He graduated in 2002 from the San Francisco Conservatory of Music with a master’s degree in guitar.

Roye is the director of guitar studies at CSU, Chico and a music theory professor.  He has performed with classical guitar groups throughout Chico and San Francisco.

Roye has also experienced masterclasses from such guitar luminaries as Manuel Barrueco and Andrew York.  He will share his knowledge of world music with audiences through “Brazilian Daze, Spanish Knights.”

“I continue to grow as a human being and as a musician, and keep myself open to music and to life,” Roye said.

Advance tickets, at $15 adults, $13 senior citizens and $6 students and children, are available at the University Box Office, 898-6333. Add $2 for tickets purchased at the door. For disability-related accommodations please call 898-4325.
