Trombonist Lloyd Roby to be Featured in Low Brass Concert, Feb. 22
CSU, Chico Faculty member Dr. Lloyd Roby will be presenting a highly eclectic concert of Low Brass music Friday, Feb. 22 at 7:30 p.m. in Rowland-Taylor Recital Hall.
Roby will be performing Paul Creston’s “Fantasy for Trombone” and Ralph Vaughan-Williams “Concerto for Bass Tuba.” Also featured will be the highly popular CSU, Chico Trombone Quartet performing Bach’s “Fugue in d minor,” “That’s A-Plenty,” Giuseppe Verdi’s “Ave Maria,” from Otello and Lowell Shaw’s “Fripperie #8.”
“The Creston “Fantasy” is one of the most challenging solo works for trombone,” said Roby. “It is somewhat reminiscent of George Gershwin’s ‘American in Paris’ with it’s jazz influenced, driving rhythms and gorgeous, ballad-like melodies. And Ralph Vaughan-Williams “Concerto for Tuba” is one of the giants of tuba literature; the English master composer gave us a real treasure with this one! It’s crafted just as carefully and has all the delightful traits of any of his other masterpieces.”
Advance tickets, at $15 adults, $13 senior citizens, and $6 students and children, are available at the University BoxOffice, 898-6333. Add $ for tickets purchased at the door. For disability-related accommodations please call 898-4325.
