Chamber Music:
Mozart & Friends
Sun., Oct. 14 at 2 p.m.
Rowland-Taylor Recital Hall
CSU, Chico’s School of the Arts will present Mozart & Friends, a collaborative chamber concert performed by members of the North State Symphony.
This all wind-instrument concert will feature Mozart’s great “Serenade in C minor” for harmony — an eight wind instrument work that is rarely preformed in the minor key.
Opening with three very short works, the concert will gradually progress by adding one musician at a time, increasing the textural density of the performance.
Other works performed will include Claude Debussy’s “Syrinx,” a traditional dreamy flute solo associated with the god Pan and pastoral life; Heitor Villa-Lobos’ “Choros No. 2,” an old Brazilian duet featuring the flute and clarinet; Paul DeWailly’s “Aubade,” written especially for a famous French oboe player; and Arthur Berger’s “Quartet,” a neo-classical piece for flute, oboe, clarinet, and bassoon that is considered one of the best 20th Century chamber music compositions for woodwinds.
