“Ye Olde English Musicke” Begins Music Department’s Fall Concert Season

On Sunday, September 9th, beginning at 2 p.m. in Rowland-Taylor Recital Hall, soprano Daun Hayes, and tenor David Scholz will perform music of Henry Purcell, John Dowland, and George Friderick Handel, accompanied by David Rothe, harpsichord, and Toby Roye, guitar.

In addition Rothe will play solo harpscihord selections by William Byrd, John Bull, and Martin Peerson, and Roye will play solo and ensemble selections on the guitar with Warren Haskell.
 
Among the vocal selections will be such famous pieces as “If music be the food of love” (Purcell) and “Where ere ye walk” (Handel). Harpsichord selections will include  “The Fall of the Leafe” (Peerson) and an anonymous arrangement of the lusty ballad, “Watkin’s Ale”.
 
Performers Daun Hayes and David Rothe are well known to Chico audiences. Dr. David Scholz is Chico State’s new Director of Choral activites. Toby Roye is a CSU, Chico guitar instructor.
