Fall Jazz Concert to Feature Guest Artists, Redding High School Band, and Student Soloists

CSU, Chico’s Jazz X-Press’ fall concert, 3rd Time Charmers (Friday, Nov. 2 at 7:30 p.m.), features three guest artists “sure to blow the roof off of the Harlen Adams Theatre,” noted Rocky Winslow, director of Jazz Studies at Chico State.

“This concert has such a good feel and uplifting spirit — it will be the musical treat of the semester,” noted Winslow.

Special guests include Paul Romaine, professional drummer from the University of Colorado; Greg Gisbert, professional trumpet player who has toured the world; and Erienne Romaine, Paul Romaine’s daughter and an up-and-coming jazz vocalist.

“Each of our esteemed artists will bring high energy and quality jazz to a concert of old and new favorites,” said Winslow. Selections will include “The Diver” arranged by Matt Harris, and “My Ideal” arranged by Maria Schnieder.

High school student Erienne Romaine was the subject of a recent PBS special about her recovery from a potentially fatal illness. Works from her new CD, “Victory Concert,” including “To be Happy,” will be performed during the concert.

The Jazz X-Press’ talented student musicians will also be featured. Expect solo performances from Juan Aguilar on trombone, Josh Jerge playing trumpet and Gabe Sakuma on baritone saxophone, said Winslow. Opening this year’s show will be Redding’s Enterprise High School Jazz Ensemble.

“Each element of this concert will come together to create a great time for everyone in the audience,” said Winslow.
