Gospel Choir to Perform Laxson Auditorium Concert Tuesday, Oct. 30

CSU, Chico’s popular Gospel Choir will bring spirit and praise to Laxson Auditorium during its Up Above My Head concert, Tues., Oct. 30 at 7:30 p.m.

The choir will perform selections by Kirk Franklin, a master gospel choir musician and the first gospel artist to grace the cover of Rolling Stone Magazine.

Director Malcolm Jackson is excited the choir will perform in Laxson Auditorium for the first time. The choir features 50 student/community member voices that are sure to fill the cavernous Laxson Auditorium, said Jackson.

“To move up to  Laxson Auditorium from our sold out shows the past five or so years in Harlen Adams Theatre is exciting but also a little scarry,” said Jackson. “We hope those folks that weren’t able to get in before come and support us.”

A Bay Area-based band featuring drums, guitar, keyboards, organs, and a flute soloist will be backing the group up. A few of the upbeat selections for the night will include “He is Able,” “Melodies from Heaven” and many more by Franklin.

“Being on campus and collaborating with the community and students to bring a spiritual and encouraging musical event to life is simply uplifting,” said Jackson. “It will be an energizing and uplifting experience, no one will stay sitting.”
