Friends and supporters of the university and of the College of Humanities and Fine Arts are an essential part of the success of our students and programs.

An open letter from Marilyn Warrens
(above), HFA alum, Class of 1975.

I graduated from Chico State in 1975 with a degree in Fine Arts. My husband I made our home here and raised our children in Chico, and over the years I have had the good fortune to work closely with the university on many projects.

The university’s motto, Today Decides Tomorrow,  has never been more true. I am sure you can point to ways that your years at Chico State have led you to where you are right now. I am always delighted when I hear stories about how alumni met their significant other at Chico State, taking classes together, working in the scene shop or the library, walking among the trees, tubing down the creek, debating in a class, or having a cup of coffee in the BMU.

How many of you remember the Spring Musical? Or playing in one of the Music Department's ensembles?  Studying for a class under one of the magnificent trees or wandering through the rose garden?

Think of all your wonderful memories and then think of these facts:

             • Chico State is one of the top universities in the west.
             • We have the highest graduation rate in the CSU system.
             • The budget was cut over 17%.

We certainly cannot afford to lose the strengths of this university, so I am hoping that you will send a gift today so that tomorrow will continue to make Chico State a better place! Some of the ways your gift will help will be scholarships and support for students to present research and creative projects at conferences, and special awards that recognize outstanding achievement.

One in particular, the Outstanding HFA student of the year, is worthy of mention.  Each year, the college chooses an outstanding student leader in one of the following majors:  American Studies, Art and Art History, English, Foreign Languages, History, Humanities, Religious Studies, Philosophy, and Theatre Arts. Your gift could fund the winner from your own department or the winner for the college honor.

Thanks for taking the time to hear from a fellow alumna and a very special thanks for sending whatever you can to help make the College of Humanities and Fine Arts a better place for our upcoming graduates and future alums!

Sincerely,

Marilyn Warrens
