When Heidi Lohse
first came to Chico, she decided to give up her flute, but it only took
a couple of months to realize how much she missed it. "It felt like
something was missing in my life," she reports.
A player of both flute and piccolo since the fifth grade, Lohse also participated
in choir and honor bands in high school "My mom always wanted us
to play, and I thought that was cool," she says.
Lohse estimates that she has more than fifty performances under her belt.
At Chico State, she has performed duets with Heidi Pintner, the principal
flautist of the North State Symphony (and her CSU, Chico flute teacher),
and has been a featured performer with the Wind Ensemble, under the direction
of Royce Tevis, Department of Music faculty member.
in 2000 Lohse was awarded the prestigious Harold Scholarship, an award
given to outstanding performers and one of the largest scholarships awarded
by the Department of Music.
Lohse, who doesn't plan on setting her flute or piccolo down again anytime
soon - "I suspect I will always be playing, it's such a big part
of my life" -plans to audition for the North State Symphony. She
will also perform in a number of different concerts and recitals with
Pintner and various Department of Music ensembles during the 2001-2002
season. With Lohse's graduation not expected until December 2003, there
will be lots of opportunities to watch this up-and-coming music student.
