Jason Adkins, a native
of Trinity County, found Chico's Department of Art after detouring to
Washington for a B.A. in Spanish from Walla Walla College; studying in
England and Spain; and soaking up the art scene in New York for a few
months. You can see influences from all four places on this painter whose
work explores human behavior in a rich range of color and strong lines.
After receiving a B.A. in Spanish with a minor in art, Adkins set out
to develop his long interest in art. Studying at Colegio Advintista de
Segunto in Spain gave him time to absorb the rich visual culture that
eventually led him to CSU, Chico's Department of Art and Art History.
"I like to think my work is like good poetry that indicates direction
through its layers," says Adkins. "I want to engage my viewers and disturb
them a little with their own questions."
Adkins has been awarded several scholarships at Chico, including the Pierce/Trucksess
Watermedia Scholarship and the Sarah Frisbie Hamilton Scholarship. He
has participated in the Open Studios Tour 2000 and showed work in the
2001 Student Art Exhibit. Don't miss Jason Adkins' solo exhibition as
part of his B.F.A. degree during the spring 2002 semester. Check with
the Department of Art at 898-5331 for dates of this show.
