Dr. Rose's current research focuses on European travelers in the United States between 1865 and 1900, and their impressions of America and Americans.


Professor Rose's latest work, Unspeakable Awfulness: America Through the Eyes of European Travelers, 1865-1900, is scheduled to be published by Routledge in 2013. He is also the author of Myth and the Greatest Generation: A Social History of Americans in World War Two (New York: Routledge, 2008), One Nation Underground: The Fallout Shelter in American Culture (New York: New York University Press, 2001), and American Women and the Repeal of Prohibition (New York: New York University Press, 1996).
