Research Interests

Dr. Jawed's research has focused on Islamic Culture and Muslim societies.

Publications

Professor Jawed is the author of Islam’s Political Culture (University of Texas Press, 1999; a South Asian edition of the book was separately published by Oxford University Press, 2000). His articles have appeared in the Muslim World, Islamic Studies, and the Journal of Asian Studies. He has presented numerous papers at national and international conferences, as well as frequently addressed local civic organizations.

Honors and Awards

Dr. Jawed was designated as an Intra-University Visiting Professor at California State University, Chico, for 1998-1999, and again for the years 2002-2004.

Curriculum Development

Over his tenure at Chico State, Professor Jawed developed about a dozen new courses in the Department of History, and founded the University-wide interdisciplinary Program of Middle Eastern Studies.
