Research Interests
Dr. Livingston's current research focuses on an investigation of the significance of the American Bicentennial Celebration in 1976. His projected monograph will add to an expanding literature that shows how commemorations, holidays, the politics or memory, and patriotic rituals contribute to an “invention” of nation and national identity.
Publications
Professor Livingston is the author of Swallowed by Globalism: John M. Vorys and American Foreign Policy (University Press of America, 2001). He has published articles in scholarly anthologies and Ohio History. In addition to numerous encyclopedia entries, he has written book reviews that have appeared in Diplomatic History, the Journal of American History, Canadian Social Studies, the Journal of Cold War Studies, History Teacher, the Historian, and the Journal of Illinois History.
Honors and Awards
In 2004, a former student’s nomination resulted in inclusion of Dr. Livingston’s biography in Who’s Who Among American Teachers. He also was designated as Campus Master Teacher at California State University, Chico from 1999 to 2001.
