Research Interests

Dr. Rose's current research project focuses upon examining the accuracy of the claim that Americans before and during World War II comprised the “Greatest Generation” in U.S. History.

Publications

Professor Rose is the author of On Nation Underground: The Fallout Shelter in American Culture (New York University Press, 2001). Routledge will publish his latest book titled Myth and the Greatest Generation: A Social History of Americans and World War II in 2007. In addition to publishing encyclopedia entries, Dr. Rose has written book reviews for the American Historical Review. He also regularly contributes op-ed essays to national, regional, and city publications.

Honors and Awards

National and international media outlets frequently interview Dr. Rose about fallout shelters and the Cold War, including the New York Times, Los Angeles Times, Washington Post, Chicago Tribune, National Geographic, the Voice of America, CBS Television (New York), RTL Dutch Television, and NHK Television in Japan.
