Research Interests

Dr. Tinkler currently is writing a new college-level U.S. History textbook that is under contract for publication with Prentice Hall. He also is developing plans for an interpretive reader for classroom use exploring the Fugitive Slave Law.

Publications

Professor Tinkler is the author of James Hamilton of South Carolina (Louisiana State University Press, 2004). He also has published book reviews in the Journal of Southern History and on H-South, H-Civil War, and H-Tennessee, as well as entries in The Companion to Southern Literature (Louisiana State University Press, 2001) and The South Carolina Encyclopedia (South Carolina Humanities Council, 2006).

Honors and Awards

Chico State students selected Dr. Tinkler for induction in September 2004 as honorary member of Phi Eta Sigma National Honor Society in recognition of his teaching excellence. In July 2002, he presented guest lectures at Doshisha University, Kyoto, Japan.
