Year 3
No Paine, No Gain:
A Common Sense Approach To Teaching American History
a program in partnership with the Chico Unified School District
The No Paine, No Gain program is designed to enhance the American history content understanding of 5th, 8th, and 11th grade teachers. Separate week-long institutes will be held for a limited number of teachers at each grade level on the CSU Chico campus during the week of July 9-13, 2007, with follow-up activities and meetings during the subsequent school year. In addition to content presentations keyed to the appropriate grade-level Standards, the program will offer content-related resources, literacy strategies, and instruction in historical skills.
Participants will receive a $1200 stipend, and will be credited with 45 professional development hours. Three units of University extension credit may be purchased for $165.
Teachers in the Chico Unified School District, as well as Year Two participants, are given enrollment priority until March 1, 2007; after that date any remaining slots are open to teachers from any district. Prospective participants are encouraged to submit applications at any time for inclusion on the waiting list.
