The E Pluribus Unum program was established to offer American history teachers in northeastern California substantial support for increasing their content knowledge, as well as enable them to experience other professional development opportunities that will enhance their teaching of American history. Separate week-long courses for 5th, 8th, and 11th grade teachers will be offered at the Region 2 Summer Teacher Institute in Red Bluff, June 9-13, 2008, along with three follow-up activities during the school year, including the annual conference of the California Council for History Education, at the Hyatt Regency Santa Clara, September 25-27, 2008.
Participants will receive a stipend of $1,100 plus more than $400 in support for their attendance at the CCHE conference (i.e. registration, hotel, and travel costs). They will also be credited with 45 hours of professional development, and have the option of purchasing three units of University extension credit for $165.
Year Two participants are given enrollment priority until February 15, 2008; after that date any remaining slots are open to teachers from any district. Prospective participants are encouraged to submit applications at any time for inclusion on the waiting list. Participation is limited to just 15 teachers per grade level, so fill out an application online now and mail it in!
