Under the Education and the Environment Initiative (EEI) adopted in 2005 teachers will be required to incorporate learning about the environment into their curriculum where appropriate. The Global Environmental History Leadership Institute will offer a select group of 7th and 10th grade teacher leaders a program of scholarly presentations on environmental history by university faculty, introduce them to both the Environmental Principles and Concepts and the Model Curriculum developed in response to the EEI, and guide them in developing Standards-aligned lessons on environmental history.

Participants will receive a stipend of $1,100 and be credited with 30 hours of professional development. They will also have the option of purchasing two units of University extension credit for $110.

The Global Environmental History Leadership Institute is an invitational program – the application process is competitive. Only applications from teachers who have completed an NSH-SSP program of at least 15 hours will be considered. Participation is limited to 10 teachers. Applications open January 15, 2008 and close March 1, 2008.
