Phi Alpha Theta: History Honors Society
Mission Statement and Benefits
To provide exceptional students of history with an opportunity to participate in various activities related to the field of history, and gain recognition outside of the classroom. Members of Phi Alpha Theta are given the opportunity to discuss historical issues, attend history movie nights, join in tours of historic sites, participate in a variety of research competitions, and aid in the publication process of the History Department’s annual journal, The Chico Historian. Members are encouraged to share input and propose events at the monthly meetings.
Benefits of Membership
Phi Alpha Theta gives students an opportunity to meet and interact with other successful students in the field of history. The organization holds several small events throughout the semester, participates in the submission and review process of the History Department’s annual journal, The Chico Historian, and also participates in the annual Northern California Regional Conference, where students present papers to the students and faculty of other Northern California universities. Membership in the organization can be noted on an academic resume or graduate school application, and provides an open door towards other notable achievements, such as the presentation of a paper at the Regional Conference.
