Key Game Recap
Chico State vs. UC Davis. Chico State entered Saturday's action with a 3-1 record. By the time they faced UC Davis, Chico had improved to 5-1. Davis entered the day 2-2, and had improved to 4-2 before facing Chico. This game was to be a battle for first place in the Northern Conference. Chico scored the first goal of the game, by Christian Hay, and led 1-0 at the end of the first quarter. Chico would add two more goals in the second, one by Doug Williams and one from Nick Nowell. By the end of the third, Chico held a 5-0 lead. UC Davis who had been shutout in the first three quarters, erupted for three goals in just over two minutes. But Chico answered back with two goals of their own. Chico went on to win the game 7-3. The game was closer than the score indicates however. Chico only outshot Davis 35-33, and Chico converted both power play opportunities they had. Glenn Henz was the real difference, as he stopped 30 of the 33 shots he faced.
Weekend Recap
Chico State proved to themselves as the team to beat in the North, as they went 4-0 and improved their overall record to 7-1. UC Davis went 3-1 on Saturday and improved their record to 5-3, securing second place in the North for the time being. Sacramento State went 2-2 on Saturday, including an exciting 8-7 victory over Sonoma State, who went 1-3 over the weekend. Both are now tied for third in the North with 3-5 records. Despite going 0-4 again, Monterey Bay showed improvement. Monterey lost two hard fought games, 7-6 to Sacramento State and 5-3 to Sonoma State. Monterey Bay is now 0-8 on the season.
