Freshmen
Honors in General Education
If you are entering Chico State as a first semester freshman, you should have at least one of the following to apply for the Honors Program:
- High School GPA of 3.5 or above OR
- SAT score of 1200 or above (math + verbal score combined) OR
- ACT score of 27 or above
Note: If you enter the program as a freshman with AP exam or college credit your requirements may be reduced after consultation with an Honors advisor.
Students not meeting these criteria will be considered, but only on an individual basis. We encourage you to apply if:
- you have participated in honors programs in high school
- you are a lifetime member of the California Scholarship Federation
- you are a National Merit finalist

Integrated Teacher Education CORE
The Integrated Teacher Education CORE (ITEC) at CSU, Chico is a pre-baccalaureate undergraduate program option that integrates the bachelor's degree in Liberal Studies and preliminary credential for individuals who already know they want to become teachers.
ITEC and Honors in GE
Individuals who wish to do so may also earn Honors in GE by completing the ITEC program. You must apply to the Honors Program using one of the links above, and you must apply separately to the ITEC program. If you are accepted to both programs, complete the ITEC curriculum, and graduate with a cumulative GPA of 3.3 or above, you will earn Honors in GE.
Note: ITEC students also participating in Honors receive all the benefits of Honors students, including priority registration, eligibility for Honors House, and recognition at commencement and on your diploma.
