Six Honors students were awarded the prestigious Rawlins Merit Award, one of the largest and most prestigious at CSU, Chico and recognizes scholarship, extracurricular activities and professionally related and academic accomplishments. Faculty members nominate the recipients, who receive scholarships of $3,000. Mitchel Davidovitz won first place for his Honors in GE thesis at the CSU Student Research Competition. His thesis was entitled “Window of Normalization: A Musical and Photographic Exposition Created Solely with Sounds and Images Captured from Live Television.”
Crystal Vasquez won the "People's Choice" Award at the Natural Sciences 10th Anuual Poster Board Session for her undergraduate research entitled "Association of Parental Attitudes and Restrictions during Childhood on College Students' Eating Habits." She also presented her research at the California Dietetics Association Annual Conference in April.
Philomena Block is performing as "Patsy" in Spamalot a Broadway adaptation of Monty Python and the Holy Grai at Laxon April 30- May 4.
Ashiah Scharaga is performing as "Fiona" in Shrek the Musical at Chico Theater Co. through May 11.
Hugh Hammond was awarded the College of Humanities and Fine Arts Outstanding Student Leader Award for 2013-14.
Crystal Vasquez was awarded the College of Natural Sciences Outstanding Student Leader Award for 2013-14.
Nicole Lung was voted for the 2014-15 Associated Students' VP of Business and Finance.
Darion Johnston was voted for the 2014-15 Associated Students' Director of Legislative Affairs. Darion was also selected to receive the Jackie Faris-Rees Student Leadership Endowment
Tyler Watson was awarded the Carroll A. Curtis Memorial Scholarship ($1000) by the MMEM Department for Excellence in Thermodynamics.
Crystal Vasquez was awarded a $3325 Osher Foundation Reentry Scholarship.
Nicole Lung was recognized as an Associated Students ASSET Honoree and received the Certificate of Applied Leadership for development of the Wildcat Leadership Institute pilot program. Crystal Vasquez was awarded the 2013-14 North Valley Dietetic Association Scholarship, the California Dietetic Association Scholarship and Summer 2013 Research and Creativty Grant. She also won the the 2013 NFSC Alumni and Friends Award.
Erin Lund won the 2013 President’s Academic Excellence Award. Kaitlin Mazzei won the 2013 CSU, Chico Advisory Board Outstanding Student Service Award. Nicole McAllister was elected 2013-14 CSUC AS Director of University Affairs. Devin McBain was awarded the 2013-14 Floyd L. English Natural Sciences Scholarship. Crystal Vasquez was awarded the 2013-14 Floyd L. English Natural Sciences Scholarship Recipient and the 2013-14 Angela Nuzum Memorial Scholarship. Jonah Maria Weeks won the 2013 Richard Dahl Scholar Athlete Award.

As the end of the year approaches, our Honors students have got a lot to celebrate!
Many of our new graduates will be moving on to graduate or professional study. Kimberly Jacobson will be starting a combined MS Degree-Dietetic Internship at the Michael E. DeBakey VA Medical Center in Houston, TX. Cameryn Titus will attend the University of the Pacific for a doctorate in Physical Therapy. Tara Razi will head south to earn her single subject credential at CSU Fullerton. Zack Eskridge will be a little closer to Chico, attending the McGeorge School of Law.
Honors students earned a number of awards and scholarships for the past year and the one to come. Rebecca Hucker won the Melitta T. Singer Memorial Scholarship and the A.H. Weibel and A.W. Bramwell Memorial Scholarship. Devin S. McBain won a CSUC Chemistry Summer Research Institute Fellowship for Summer 2011. Crystal Vasquez won the Natural Sciences Academic and Performance Recruitment Scholarship for 2011-12. This last year Tara Razi was awarded the Michael gillis Scholarship, the Sarah Libby Mahood Merit Scholarship, the Benjamin A. Gilman Scholarship and the CSU Chico USAC Scholarship. Briana Beaver won the Sociology Exceptional Achievement Award and the Robert P. Rankin Award. Noelle Jahn was a Gold Seal Recipient of the Residential Life Staff Diversity Award Resident Advisor "Rookie of Distinction" Award. Koudougou Koala won the Chico City Mayor's Award and a $5,000 SAP scholarship.
Our students have also been busy presenting their work in journals, at conferences and in exhibitions. Morgan Fedor published an essay in IDEATE: Journal of Sociology. Caleb Weeks presented his paper "Accommodating local food systems: addressing vendors' needs at the Chico Certified Farmers' Market" at the California Geographical Society conference in April. Mitchel Davidovitz had his photo "Plaszów Concentration Camp" published in the magazine Scribendi, and is showing his Untitled Monoprint in the student exhibition at Turner Gallery. Devin S. McBain presented "Isolation of natural products from the marine hydroid Corydendrium parasiticum" at the undergraduate poster session of the American Chemical Society meeting in Anaheim. Rebecca Hucker had a poem published in the magazine ME: Multicultural Echoes.
Honors students Michelle Nelson and Ciara Johnson have won Robert Noyce Teacher Scholarships for 2011-2012 from the National Science Foundation. Michelle also won the award the previous year.

Gavin Dixon, Garrison Harward and Tara Razi all won Associated Students Outstanding Student Leader awards. Kara Lubieniecki won the Richard Dahl Scholar Athlete Award. Finally, Kalah Horton won the President's Award for Outstanding Academic Achievement given to the graduating senior with the highest GPA. Congratulations to all!
