Campus Housing

California State University, Chico students have several residence halls to choose from. We have five traditional residence halls (Mechoopda Hall, Esken Hall, Shasta Hall, Lassen Hall, Whitney Hall) as well as our thematic housing program, with six houses in Konkow Hall. Together these on-campus halls provide housing for 1,260 students who are mostly first-time freshmen. Though specifics vary among each community, all halls offer accommodations for both men and women. The halls are generally designed with rooms for two students who share the same general bathrooms with 30+ residents. Each hall is in close proximity to the dining facility and within walking distance to classes. While housing is not guaranteed, we do give priority to first-time freshmen.

University Village is the only university–owned apartment complex and a unique housing facility in Chico. The village program is tailored after the residence hall program, while still giving its residents the benefits and feel of an apartment community. The village is a leisurely (just a little less than a mile) bike ride from campus. Free bus service to and from campus is available.

Advantages of living in residence halls include

  • Leadership opportunities
  • Supportive study environment with study lounges and Internet access
  • Live–in student and professional staff to assist residents
  • Convenience
  • All–you–care–to–eat meal plans
  • On-site laundry facilities

During the year, each residence hall develops into a community – a product of both the hall itself and the students who live there. The diversity of living experiences and programs creates opportunities for all residents to participate in their community.
