Transcript for Mechoopda/Esken Hall Video

At Chico State University, student housing is separated into three residential areas: Main campus, North Campus, and University Village. Located on North Campus, Mechoopda Hall and Esken Hall are adjacent to the Konkow Houses and very near the University’s sports facilities. These residence halls are also located near the Student Health Center and are a 7-minute walk from classroom buildings.

Mechoopda and Esken halls each have 4 RA staff and one full-time professional residence hall manager in each building.

Hall staff assist students with their transition to college life, as well as aide in educational, social, recreational and cultural programming activities.

Mechoopda and Esken halls are two-story walk-up buildings and each accommodate about 120 students. The second floor areas feature vaulted ceilings and hallways. Student bedrooms are double occupancy with community restrooms on the corridor

Each building has community recreation, study and programming areas. The physical layout of Mechoopda Hall and Esken Hall provide close-knit communities designed to promote personal growth in a residential setting. Residents participate in the residential meal plan program and the Whitney Dining Center is about a five minute walk on the way to the campus core. You can also use your meal plan at such on-campus eateries as Butte Station, Holt Station, Creekside Cafe, and the Market Place Food Court.

Added to these features are the fully furnished rooms, as well as high speed Ethernet, air conditioning and telephone service with voicemail and call waiting and cable television. There is also access to a computer lab, study lounge, a recreation room exclusive to the residents as well as on site laundry services.

Safety features include copy-resistant magnetic core keys, Residential Life staff and University Police Patrols assigned to each floor.

I love Chico State. The campus is beautiful and really nice. I think what is unique to Esken, as well as Mechoopda, is the fact that it’s a really open airy building. You only have so many residents in your hall and it’s a fun environment, but at the same time it’s really conducive to learning.
