Transcript for Whitney Hall Video (PDF)

At Chico State University, student housing is separated into three residential areas: Main Campus, North Campus and University Village Located on Main Campus, Whitney Hall is the largest residence hall on campus accommodating 540 students on eight residential floors. Whitney Hall has 16 RA staff and two full-time professional residence hall managers. Hall staff members assist students with their transition to college life, as well as aide in educational, social, recreational and cultural programming activities.

Whitney Hall is home to some of our themed residential programs. These programs compliment the learning and social experiences of residential students. Themed housing is based year to year on student need and interest. Recently, Whitney’s theme floors have included recreational sports and community service (CAVE).

At nine floors, Whitney Hall is the tallest building on campus, and probably the most widely recognized Chico State residence hall. Whitney is a traditional residence hall-style community. Student rooms are double occupancy with community restrooms on the corridor.

There are a few single and triples rooms available for assignment. Residence hall rooms, especially those located on the upper floors, afford commanding views of the campus, city and the valley. Two residential wings on each floor are separated by a central floor lounge and elevator lobby. There are approximately 34 students in each wing.

Whitney Hall has community recreation, study and programming areas. It is also home to the residential dining center which serves all students participating in the mandatory meal plan program. Residence hall residents can also use their meal plan cards at such on-campus eateries as Butte Station, Holt Station, Creekside Cafe, and the Market Place Food Court. Whitney Hall is located within site of the campus core, providing easy access to the University Library, classroom buildings and Bell Memorial Union.

The building is set amid the famous greenery of Chico State and Chico Creek, and is just across the street from Acker Gym and the Student Health Center.

Like all other Chico State residence halls, Whitney Hall features fully furnished rooms, high speed Ethernet, air conditioning, cable television, and telephone service with call waiting and voicemail. There is also access to a computer lab, study lounges, a recreation room as well as laundry rooms on most floors. Whitney Hall residents are also close to the fun and interest of downtown Chico.

Safety features include copy-resistant magnetic core keys, regular University Police patrols, and close living with other students.

Whitney Hall is where all the action happens. The other halls are more laid back, they’re, I’d say quieter, in a way, but Whitney Hall is kinda where it all happens. The amount of kids just makes it action-packed and stuff like that. You develop awesome relationships in that you’re so close that you become a big family on your floor.
