State Employee Health Plan Dependent Eligibility Verification (DEV)

Regulations passed in 2015 require all State employees verify health eligibility for covered dependents every three years.  This process begins in February 2018. All employers of the State, which includes California State University, must adhere to these regulations and CalPERS will be requesting this information from affected employees to verify the continued eligibility of existing health covered dependent’s in the plan.

CalPERS will begin sending notifications to the affected employee’s mailing address beginning February 2018, and on a quarterly basis, based on the employee’s birth month. For 2018, covered employees with birthdays in the months of April, July and October will be required to provide dependent eligibility verification documents to the Benefits Office.

Re-verification must be provided for the following covered family members:

  • Spouse
  • Domestic partner
  • Children
  • Stepchildren
  • Domestic partner children

If you do not have dependents on your health insurance plan or if you are not currently enrolled in a CSU health insurance plan, you will not need to provide any documentation.
