Notifications
Notification of training will come from the coordinator for each type of training and is typically via email. Departments are asked to complete the Required Training Checklist which also generates a notice from Professional Development.
CSU Conflict of Interest Training (Web-based)
~ Required of some positions ~
In alignment with state law, the CSU’s Conflict of Interest code requires Employees in Designated Positions (PDF) to complete an on-line CSU Ethics and Conflict of Interest Training every two years. Completion time for the training is approximately 50 minutes with testing embedded throughout the content. This training is accessible wherever Internet access is available - but works best in Internet Explorer and Pop-Ups must be allowed. If you have not participated in the training, or two years has elapsed, you will be notified by e-mail of the time frame in which you will need to complete this training. PLEASE NOTE: The e-mail will come directly from a third-party vendor, Workplace Answers®, with a personalized link for your individual account. Form 700
Employees in Designated Positions are also required by state law to file a Statement of Economic Interests (Form 700) (PDF) on an annual basis. [View a sample completed form (PDF). Principle Investigators complete a CSU Form 700-U (PDF) instead.] Each designated position has been assigned disclosure categories based on the position description. The CSU Conflict of Interest Disclosure Categories list provides a description of each of these categories. Detailed information is available online about the CSU Conflict of Interest policies and procedures and the Fair Political Practices Commission (FPPC). CSU Security Awareness Training (Web-based)
~ Required annually of some employees ~

CSU Sexual Harassment Prevention Training (Web-based)
~ Required of all employees (who do not have supervisory or lead responsibilities) ~
Consistent with the Fair Employment and Housing Act, the CSU (EO 927) (PDF) requires all employees to receive Anti-Sexual Harassment training upon their initial arrival at campus. The campus has chosen to use the CSU's web-based training - Sexual Harassment: Understanding Your Rights and Responsibilities to meet this requirement. New employees are asked to bring a copy of certificate of completion to Professional Development (Human Resources Service Center, KNDL 220) for inclusion in their personnel file. This training is separate from the CSU Sexual Harassment Training for Supervisors and the campus' own refresher training (such as, "Recognizing Discrimination and Harassment"). CSU Sexual Harassment Prevention Training for Supervisors (Web-based)
~ Required for supervisors, work leads and employees that direct the work of others (including student leads) ~
The CSU and State Law (AB 1825) requires all employees who become supervisors to receive training within six months of assuming supervisory responsibilities. In addition, any individual who supervises employees or student assistants (e.g. provides work direction) is required to complete the CSU course. This training requirement is ongoing and the course must be completed every two years. This on-line training is offered through an independent provider, Workplace Answers. Supervisors receive an email directly from Workplace Answers®, which provides them a personalized link to the Web-based training . The CSU offers an FAQ site to help answer general questions regarding this training (rev. 10/12/2005). EHS Defensive Driver Training
~ Necessary for most employees ~
The CSU Vehicle Use Policy requires that employees complete a Defensive Driver Training (DDT) course every four years to drive a state vehicle or privately-owned vehicle on state business. The Office of Vehicle Reservations offers the two-hour course on a weekly basis for faculty, staff, and student employees. EHS Emergency Preparedness Training (Web-based)
~ Required of all employees ~
The emergency management orientation includes procedures to address emergency preparedness. More information is available at the Emergency Preparedness web site, or by contacting Yvette Streeter, Emergency Preparedness Coordinator, (530) 898-5126.
EHS Emergency Action Plan (Web-based)
~ Required of all employees ~
This 20-minute training is required one-time during the course of your employment by Cal-OSHA. However, if rules, regulations, or programmatic changes were to occur, you will be required to retake this module with an explanation of the changes. The Emergency Action Plan is presented to employees to give them a basic understanding of what to do in the event of many different types of emergencies. EHS Fire Prevention Plan Training (Web-based)
~ Required of all employees ~
This training is required one-time during the course of your Chico State employment by Cal-OSHA. The purpose of the Fire Prevention Plan is to serve as a supplement to California State University, Chico’s Injury and Illness Prevention Program (IIPP) and must be used in conjunction with the IIPP. The Fire Prevention Plan establishes safe work practices and procedures and provides information which is necessary to ensure that members of the University community are knowledgeable in ways in which to recognize fire hazards and prevent fires. EHS General Safety Training (Web-based)
~ Required of all employees ~
This training is required one-time during the course of your employment. However, if rules, regulations, or programmatic changes were to occur, you will be required to retake this module with an explanation of the changes. In accordance with California Labor Code and California Code of Regulations, Title 8, California State University, Chico has developed and implemented a comprehensive Injury and Illness Prevention Program (IIPP) to adhere to the requirements set-forth, and to make every effort to maintain a healthy and safe work environment for faculty, staff, students, visiting contractors, and visitors to our campus. EHS Hazardous Communication (Web-based)
~ Required of some positions ~
Hazard Communication training is required for employees who work with chemical products by Cal/OSHA to give the employees and the employer their rights and responsibilities when using chemicals. This training is required one-time during the course of your Chico State employment by Cal-OSHA. Contact Marvin Pratt at Environmental Health & Safety, at at (530) 898-5126 for more information.
New Employee Orientation
~ Required of all employees ~
A half-day New Employee Orientation is typically held each month to help staff become familiar with the history of Chico State, understand its organizational structure, and learn about the services that are offered to both employees and students. Staff and management employees will also become familiar with CSU Policies and Employee Obligations including:
- Department of Fair Employment & Housing Poster, as required by EO-927
- Title IX (Discrimination, Harassment and Retaliation—including sexual harassment/violence—as required by EO-1072)
- Equal Employment, as required by EO 883
- Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), as required by EO 883, EO 926,
- Complaint Procedures (for non-CBA employees), as required by EO 928
- Campus Behavior and Violence Prevention, as required by EM 12-025
