GENERAL INFORMATION: A multicultural community with a population of 105,080, Chico is located in the Sacramento Valley near the foothills of the Sierra Nevadas. Convenient to Sacramento, the San Francisco Bay Area, the Lake Tahoe region, and many state and national parks, Chico retains the charm of a small town while offering excellent medical services, a fine school system, and many cultural attractions. Bidwell Park, the second largest municipal park west of the Mississippi, extends from the city center along a creek, deep into the foothills and canyons. Several publications have highlighted the community of Chico, including one that identified Chico as one of the fifty best towns in the United States and another named Chico "America's Best Bike Town." The cost of living in Chico is comparable to moderate-size Midwestern cities. Founded in 1887, CSU, Chico is a fully accredited, state-supported comprehensive university, one of the twenty-three California State University system campuses. A residential campus serving an on-campus student body of approximately 15,350, CSU, Chico offers undergraduate and graduate programs in the Colleges of Agriculture, Behavioral and Social Sciences, Business, Communication and Education, Computer Science, Engineering and Technology, Humanities and Fine Arts, and Natural Sciences.
