The Humanities Program
Welcome to the website of the Humanities Program at California State University, Chico.
Humanities is a program devoted to the study, appreciation, and analysis of cultural traditions from an interdisciplinary perspective. It focuses on the arts (including literature, music, theatre, sculpture, painting, architecture, film) and ideas (philosophical trends, artistic movements, and religious traditions) by examining individual works and thinkers in their particular cultural and historical contexts. The program allows students to specialize in a particular period (such as classical antiquity, the Medieval period, the Renaissance, and Modernism) or in cultures of Asia, Africa, and the Americas.
All humanities students study a foreign language at the advanced intermediate level (in French, German, Italian, or Spanish) or at the advanced beginning level (in Arabic, Chinese, Greek, Hebrew, Japanese, Latin, or Russian).
The Humanities Program at Chico State is on the second floor of Trinity Hall (room 239), overlooking the Rose Garden. Feel free to come by to meet our staff and faculty. Please contact us with any questions or comments at: email@example.com
