International Forum Schedule of Events

Still looking for an opportunity to stay on top of fast-shifting global news while you earn credit toward your academic degree?

The Department of International Languages, Literatures and Cultures (ILLC) might have the answer for you: Every semester, ILLC holds an international forum on campus, which attracts students, faculty and staff. The forum, as this curricular activity is more commonly known among faculty and students, is open to the local Chico community and beyond, and consists of a series of presentations (i.e., lectures, debates, and panel discussions) on a wide variety of topics of current global concern. As an open forum, this international space provides ample latitude for academic learning, and the development of an appreciation for the richness of multicultural settings here and abroad.

The Forum’s theme this semester could not be more fitting in the globalized context we live in nowadays: Democracy and Global Citizenship.

As a class (INST 301: "International Forum"), students may take this course more than once for a maximum of 6.0 units (Credit/no credit grading only); and is an excellent opportunity to gain upper division credit (40 units required) while focusing on topics of international relevance. The forum meets every Tuesday, from 4:00 to 5:00 P.M. – 120 Ayres Hall; except for a few select days in the semester, which are set aside for in-class discussion(s) and review of materials covered during the various guest-lecture presentations.
