Hurricane Sandy caused unprecedented flooding in Lower Manhattan and coastal New Jersey, as a larger-than-expected tidal surge washed over the area. In the aftermath, New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo (D) and New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg (I) said that we will need to address the challenges of climate change and rising sea levels in part by building levees and structural storm protection systems.

More Than a Fee
In the previous issue of Inside Chico State, I discussed the value of bringing more international students to our campus. Now, having completed a whirlwind trip to China, Korea, and Japan—visiting 14 institutions in nine days—to strengthen partnerships and understandings we currently have with universities there and to establish new ones, I am convinced more than ever of how attractive the University is to students from other countries.
Dick and Marian Baldy’s Immeasurable Contributions to the College of Agriculture
Dick and Marian Baldy were inducted into the College of Agriculture Hall of Honor in October.
Dick and Marian Baldy met at UC Davis in 1965 and were married four months later. Dick asked Marian to marry him on their second date. “This was quite uncharacteristic of me,” said Baldy, usually deliberate about making decisions.
