Nine Selected for Professional Achievement Honors

Selected by the Faculty Recognition and Support Committee, recipients of the 2014-2015 Professional Achievement Honors have exemplified the teacher-scholar model over the past three years. “These outstanding members of our academic community inspire colleagues and students alike with the quality and obvious passion of their work,” wrote President Paul Zingg in a campus announcement.

Candice Sawyer, a ecological, evolutionary, and organismal biology major, and biology professor Don Miller with two birdwing butterflies. They were collected by Professor Miller from Papua New Guinea and are some the world’s largest butterflies.

A Name for Everything

Housed in Holt Hall, Chico State’s entomology lab represents more than 50 years of student effort and dedication, and countless hours of student-conducted research. Students get to work hands-on with specimens and learn the technical skills that are required in organizing and preparing a collection. They also develop research skills needed in identifying often hard-to-pinpoint species.
