Making It Official: President Hutchinson Inaugurated

On March 3, 2017, Chico State began a new chapter in its history with the inauguration of President Gayle E. Hutchinson, the 12th president in the University’s 130-year history and its first female president.

Tradition was woven into every detail, from the gonfalons used to lead the procession and a new presidential medallion to the wearing of academic regalia and the singing of the University Hymn. To commemorate this special event, a new University mace filled with symbolism was commissioned and created by a Chico artist and alum.

Inauguration week was filled with celebratory festivities, starting with a visit by writer and activist Gloria Steinem and concluding with a barbecue at University Farm. To view photos from the inauguration, visit the gallery produced by University Photographer Jason Halley.
