“Oh, What a Beautiful Day!” Celebrants Flock to Expo 125!
Expo 125! was presented on Saturday, April 14, in honor of CSU, Chico’s 125th anniversary. In planning since last October, the campus open house was a great success by any measurement: the more than 2,000 people who attended, the visitors from the community, the dozens of activities and booths presented from all areas of campus, and the sense of pride and celebration that abounded.
One thousand cupcakes, baked and placed in a design of Trinity Hall by AS Catering’s Don Slater and crew, were consumed. Thousands of cookies and gallons of lemonade were available at tables around campus. Student musicians played for the crowd. Marilyn Warrens hosted visitors to the historic Albert E. Warrens Reception Center, arriving in a cherry red vintage car.
While Expo 125! was taking place on campus, a crew of students and faculty from the Department of Construction Management and volunteers from the community were working together to build a visitor’s center at Patrick Ranch in Chico, the latest of the award-winning Blitz Build projects organized by Construction Management.
“I’ve lost track of how many folks told me that this was one of our University's finest days ever,” said President Paul Zingg. “The campus grounds looked stunning; faculty, staff, student, and community volunteers were everywhere; and the planned activities were a big hit with our visitors. Many prospective students, on campus for Choose Chico! in the morning, made up their minds on the spot they wanted to come to Chico, and it was easy to see why. We are a special place, not just on a day like Saturday, but every day. This month marks our founding in 1887, and the community spirit that brought a teachers college to Chico 125 years ago is alive and well.”
