Arrival in Chico

The nearest airport to Chico State is Chico Municipal Airport. The only airline that flies into Chico is United Express. All flights to Chico come through San Francisco. See the Arrival Information Form for information on being picked up at the Chico airport or bus terminal.

What to Expect at the Airport

When you first arrive in the U.S. (even if you have not reached your final destination yet), you will get off the plane, and go through immigration and customs. The immigration officer will want to see your passport, visa, and I-20 or DS-2019. Many airports record the fingerprints of international students. This is a standard U.S. security procedure. After going through immigration, you will collect your suitcases and take your bags through customs. They will ask about the contents of your bags. They may open your suitcases. Do not bring fruits, vegetables, meat, or other fresh foods into the U.S.

For a few days before the beginning of the fall semester, we are able to offer temporary on-campus housing at a very reasonably price. See the Arrival Information Form in the admission packet that was mailed to you for more information. If you are arriving spring semester or are accompanied by family members it is important that you make hotel reservations in advance of your arrival.
