Conditional Graduate Applicant

Students who do not meet the English language proficiency requirement for admission may be able to apply for conditional admission. Students who choose the conditional admission option begin by studying English at the American Language and Culture Institute on the CSU, Chico campus. When the appropriate language proficiency is reached, students may then begin their academic programs at the University.

The following graduate programs will consider students for conditional admission:
  • Art (Art History, Fine Arts)
  • Biological Science
  • Communication Studies
  • Education
  • Electrical and Computer Engineering
  • Environmental Science
  • Geosciences
  • Kinesiology
  • Political Science
  • Public Administration
  • Recreation Administration
  • Teaching International Languages

The following programs will NOT consider students for conditional admission:

  • Business Administration (MBA)
  • Communication Sciences and Disorders
  • Computer Science
  • English
  • Nutritional Science
  • Social Work

If requesting conditional admission, the following language sessions are available to Master's level students:

Fall 1: Begins late August

Spring 1: Begins late January

Exceptions may be made on a case-by-case basis depending upon the program of study and time of University application submission.  For questions about exceptions, please contact your Admissions Evaluator at iss@csuchico.edu.

Applying for Conditional Admission is easy! Here's how...

1. Apply online through CSU Mentor and pay the $55 application fee

2. ALCI Application 

  • Complete and print the ALCI Application Form 
  • Pay the $100 (non-Refundable) application fee
    • Check or money order - drawn on a U.S. Bank
    • Visa or MasterCard
