Immigration Regulations

International Students are required to follow the regulations governing their student visa classification. Information on the regulations is on the second page of student’s I-20 or DS-2019. Further information is available by following the links below, or by contacting the International Student Advisors.

Maintaining Status

International Students are responsible for knowing and abiding by the terms of their visa. This web site provides an overview of students’ responsibilities.

Immigration Documents and Terminology

Each student should be familiar with their immigration documents and the terminology of their visa classification.

Change of Address

All international students must inform the US Citizenship and Immigration Service of any change to their residential address within 10 days. This is done by informing the International Student Advisors in the Student Services Center 440.

Full Course Load Requirement

International Students are required to be enrolled in courses full-time (minimum 8 units for graduate students and 12 units for undergraduate students) each fall and spring semester until they graduate unless they have been approved in advance for a reduced course load.

Travel Outside the United States

Students who wish to travel outside the United States must ensure that they are carrying the appropriate documents including (in most cases) a valid passport, a valid U.S. visa, and an I-20 or DS-2019 with a recent signature for travel.

Program Completion or Extension of I-20 or DS-2019

Students are required to complete their studies by the program end date on their I-20 or DS-2019. Students who need extensions must complete an application prior to the program end date.

Transferring Universities

International Students who transfer into or out of CSU, Chico from another U.S. institution must complete a transfer process within the SEVIS database in addition to completing the usual admission processes.
