National Survey of Student Engagement (NSSE)

California State University, Chico administers the National Survey of Student Engagement(opens in new window) (NSSE) in the Spring to samples of first-year and senior undergraduate students. The NSSE is an institutional-wide survey that assesses the extent to which first-year and senior undergraduates engage in educational practices associated with high levels of learning and development. The survey is based on the premise that the frequency with which students engage in effective educational practices indicates the quality of the educational experience.

The Companion survey to the NSSE is the Faculty Survey of Student Engagement (FSSE).

NSSE publishes a WASC Accreditation Toolkit (DOC) that maps NSSE questions 1 through 19 to the following WASC Criteria for Review(opens in new window) (CFR): 1.4, 2.2a, 2.4, 2.5, 2.8, 2.9, 2.10, 2.11, 2.12, 2.13.
