Instructionally Related Activities

The Instructionally Related Activities (IRA) program supports learning experiences outside of but related to the formal instructional offerings of the University. Instructionally Related Activities are defined as "activities and laboratory experiences that are partially sponsored by an academic discipline or department and which are, in the judgment of the President, integrally related to the function of instructional offerings."

Instructionally Related Activities include, but are not limited to, the following categories:

  • Intercollegiate athletics
  • Radio, television, and film
  • Music and dance performance
  • Drama and musical productions
  • Art exhibits
  • Publications
  • Forensics
  • Club, intramural, and recreational sports
  • Other activities (including national competitions and performances)

Source of IRA Funds

  • Funding for activities/programs is provided by an Instructionally Related Activities fee paid by all students each semester when they enroll in University classes
  • Funding requests must be for those costs that are not a part of the regular cost of instruction
