Overview

A personal certificate is like a digital ID card that resides on your computer.

Personal Certificates can be used for the following purposes:

  • Digitally Signing Email (To prove that a message came from your address)
  • Encryption of Email messages
  • Digitally “signing” documents in other programs such as Adobe Acrobat Pro
  • Limiting access to sensitive systems and services

CSU, Chico personal certificates are interchangeable with other CSU Campuses and the Chancellor’s Office through the InCommon federation.

Certificate Management

Instructions:

IMPORTANT – Do not discard your certificate after you install it. You should save your private key in a secure location such as a password manager. Do not share your certificate password.
