Qualifications/ Requirements

Bachelor's Degree

First-Time Freshmen from the U.S. or overseas:

  • Completion of a university-preparatory secondary/ high school program with a 3.0 (B in the U.S. system) or "Very Good" average
  • Three years of university-preparatory mathematics courses including at least beginning algebra, geometry, and intermediate algebra. All must have passing grades (C- or better or the equivalent)
  • The SAT test is not required for admission except for freshman with 3 or more years of high school in the U.S.
  • Must have English Proficiency

Lower Division or Upper Division transfers from outside the U.S.:

  • Completion of a university-preparatory secondary/ high school program with a 3.0 (B in the U.S. system) or "Very Good" average
  • Three years of university-preparatory mathematics courses including at least beginning algebra, geometry, and intermediate algebra. All must have passing grades (C- or better or the equivalent)
  • 2.40 or B-/C+ ("very good"/"good") average or the equivalent on all college/university courses completed.
  • Must have English Proficiency

Upper Division transfers from a U.S. school:

  • A 2.40 grade point average
  • Completion of General Education Area A requirements with grades of C- or better: A1 Oral Communication; A2 Written Communication: A3 Critical Thinking; and A4 Mathematics. Complete information about general education requirements: http://www.csuchico.edu/catalog/cat09/05Degree/05ge.html
  • Completion of 60 units of baccalaureate-level courses prior to the beginning of the semester for which you apply for admission.
  • Proof of high school graduation is not required.

Documentation Requirements:

Academic documents required in support of an application are official transcripts, mark sheets, certificates, and/or examination results. Each document recorded in a language other than English must be accompanied by an original certified translation.

Master's Degree

All master's applicants:

  • Must have completed a 4-year university degree comparable to a U.S. bachelor's degree.
  • Must have an undergraduate (bachelor's degree level) grade point average of at least 2.75 in the last 60 semester units of course work and at least 3.0 in the last 30 units. In the U.S. system, a 0 is failure and 4.0 is excellent. 3.0 is "very good."
  • Must have English Proficiency
