The Orion wins newspaper of the year

The Orion placed first in the college weekly category in the Newspaper of the Year competition at the National College Newspaper Convention in San Francisco on Feb. 25. The contest is an annual general excellence competition conducted by the Associated Collegiate Press. This is the third time in four years that The Orion has won the award, also taking top honors in 1998 and 1999.

This award demonstrates the continuing tradition of hardwork and productivity embraced by journalism students.

Participants' work was compiled into a workbook, critiqued and used as teaching examples. Journalists from The Orion, the Chico News and Review, and the Chico Enterprise-Record were among those attending the editorial workshop.
