Accommodating the theater lover

by Maritza Rodriguez

Chico is a lot more than just a college town. Yes, the city is small and limited to two highways and a few major streets, but hidden in every corner is an opportunity to experience some cultural exposure. With three theaters, The Blue Room Theatre, Chico Theater Company, and Chico Cabaret, the theater lover can enjoy a good show whenever.

The Blue Room

The Blue Room Theatre sits right in the heart of downtown Chico located at 139 West First Street, upstairs from Collier’s Hardware.  A group that went by the name The Cosmic Travel Agency started it.
While The Blue Room Theatre actually has a theater company with eight members, it holds open auditions for community members.

The theater is open Thursday through Sunday and offers general seating.  Ticket price for adults is $12 and $10 for students and senior citizens.  As an added bonus The Blue Room Theatre also offers a major discount on Thursdays, the charge is only $6.

For more information call (530) 895-3749 or log on to www.blueroomtheatre.com.

Chico Theater Company

The Chico Theater Company is located on 166 Eaton Road in Chico and is just a few minutes from downtown. Two local theater veterans, Brian Holderman and Marc Edson, formed it.  The Chico Theater Company relies on the residents of Chico for its actors and stage crew.

Shows run Thursday through Saturday at the Chico Theater Company.  The cost of tickets varies on what kind of seat you prefer.  Premium seats, rows A through F, cost $22, patron seats, rows G through L, cost $18 and general seats cost $15 per person.

If price is really an issue, the Chico Theater Company offers a few discounts.  If tickets are purchased in advance, students and senior citizens receive a $2 discount for any regular night.  Bargain Thursdays hold the beast deal charging only $15 for any seat in the house.

For advance ticket sales or to find out what shows are running, call (530) 894-2CTC or log on to www.chicotheatrecompany.com.

Chico Cabaret

With shows running Thursday through Saturday the Chico Cabaret, located on
2201 Pillsbury Road is another great place to get entertainment. Chico Cabaret opened its doors in January of 2001 and offers something different than the other theaters.
At Chico Cabaret you have the opportunity to eat a meal, have a drink and dessert all while the show is going on.  And on opening night you are invited to a champagne reception after the show where you have the opportunity to meet the cast.

For ticket prices or show times call (530) 895-0245 or log on to www.chicocabaret.com.
