Cat
Bytes Online Magazine
Cat Bytes online magazine is produced from the ground up
by the students of the Internet Newspapers and Magazines class.
During the semester, students learn about nonlinear writing techniques,
adding value to a story using pictures, sound, and movies, using
the web as a research tool, and creating web sites.
Cat Bytes began as an experimental class taught by Professor Glen
Bleske, and is now a part of the curriculum.
"We were searching for ways within the department to give
students some real-world experience at creating an online product
other than The Orion," Bleske said. "This can increase the
marketability of our students."
"The students, I think, are finding this to be an interesting way
to be involved in storytelling," Bleske said. "It is very low-cost,
without paper or printing costs. All you need is students' time.
Anybody can do it. Online journalism is limited to people's imagination."
