Organizations
with
local chapters
The International Association
of Business Communicators (IABC)
is a worldwide organization made up mostly of individuals in the
public relations and communication fields. IABC encourages students
to become
involved with its organization through their local student chapter
on campus.
The California State University, Chico chapter provides support,
guidance and experiential opportunities for its members. IABC invites
communications and public relations professionals to speak at its
weekly meetings, encourages members to become involved in one of
the group's many committees, and also participates in a mentor program
that teams up students with their real-world professional counterparts.
Other activities include fundraisers and socials.
Members receive IABC's magazine Communication World. IABC is a
great way to meet people in your major, make friends, gain extracurricular
experience, and network with people who are working in the field.
The
adviser to IABC is Morris Brown.
The Society of Professional
Journalists (SPJ) is the oldest and largest
organization
of working U.S. journalists. The primary purposes of this organization
are to enhance professional ethics, provide training and lobby on
behalf of First Amendment freedoms. California State University,
Chico's SPJ student chapter has been awarded two Director's Awards.
